Wardrobe Import: The piece that becomes the unexpected wildcard

H&M
Kimono

This Kimono by H&M is one of those pieces that seems unpractical on the rack but has potential to become a go-to piece for any special occasion. Intricate and classic embroidery over a loose cut that can be belted, worn as a dress, to the beach, as a cover-up for a gown: the possibilities are endless. This is a clear example of how when a piece is unique enough (and still wearable) it's best to get it even when we're not sure where we'll wear it to - you'll know it when the right time comes.

New Found Blurb: Dior's sheer gown goes to the red carpet thanks to Jennifer Lawrence

Not your easiest of looks to take to the red carpet, but it's done now - Jennifer Lawrence wore it to the Hunger Games' premiere. Trading toplessness for a 50s-like leotard, the all-sheer lavender dress from the Fall 2013 Dior Collection has made its appearance in real life.
The sheer trend is all the rage right now but will this be remembered as a 2010s faux pas in a few years time? See her look here and decide.

A tough look to digest and yet, we give Jennifer's bravery and her stylist a thumbs up.

Mad about plaid: the trend is back and stronger than ever

There are trends that don't even deserve to be called that since they make their way time and time again with a new perspective or twist (a status studs have also gained). The plaid trend is just what it is - a classic that doesn't really go away but is able to reinvent itself and become a must-have again. This time around, the plaid pattern is somewhat monochromatic and the edginess will come from the cut and design of the pieces it appears on. Bomber and moto jackets, oversize coats, tapered pants and metallic details are examples of how plaid is back with a cool factor that is still elegant and timeless.

Why shopping your closet matters

There's at least one thing I have in common with you: I like clothes. Some people might not understand us, but we know that something doesn't have to be expensive to be valuable. When something gets ruined or lost (or doesn't fit anymore), we will care and be sad about it.
This doesn't mean that our whole life revolves around our wardrobe or what we wear (not that there's anything wrong with that), but they represent more than just fabric and shapes. Personally, I can remember what I was wearing when something important happened to me (good or bad) and will make certain choices that go beyond mere fashion that add meaning to the day I'm about to face.

If this sounds familiar to you, then closet shopping will deem important. Upon browsing, "what was I thinking?" moments will come, "glad I still have this" pieces will reappear and above all, a look at your past self (even if it's only a few months difference) will be imminent.
As most objects do, clothes tell a story and unless we are naturalists, they will accompany us throughout our lives.

The closet shopping mentality is not the same as a simple closet clean-up and its effects are even better:
  1. You will understand why you love something and try to use it again or revive it in some way soon.
  2. You'll be sure why something has to go - it might still look great but if something brings you bad memories, you shouldn't have to keep it.
  3. You'll know yourself better - yes, clothes are part of who we are.
  4. You will develop a fashion style that is truly yours, regardless of the trends - you have been yourself long before this fashion season.
Now make way and let the closet shopping spree begin.

Stripes for the weekend: the casual yet stylish look

A striped sweater and boyfriend jeans combo? It doesn't get more easy than that. Style it up by going the ripped and rolled-up way for the jeans and add a few extras that will make it a covetable outfit:
  • an oversize coat is the season's must-have: a camel or mustard color is the current trend but there are a myriad of choices out there.
  • pump up the coolness by adding a pair of cap toe ankle boots.
  • balance the masculine proportions and the carefree attitude by adding a touch of floral and a colorful and classic statement necklace.
That's it! A deliciously wearable yet über chic look that will get you through a relaxed weekend.
